When in Doubt, Blog!

blog

Most businesses have websites. No doubt.  Not all of them, however, have blogs.  A number of studies continue to point to the value of a blog for customer retention and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Sales.

Google dislikes stagnant websites.  Change is good.  This doesn’t mean having to rewrite your whole website when you want Google to come around again.  It’s more about providing Google some new content on a regular basis to help make it happy.

Hubspot ran a study and published some interesting results:  companies with blogs have 55% more visitors, 97% more inbound links and 434% more indexed pages.

Who doesn’t need an extra 15 GB of sync-able, cloud based storage?  While we were setting up our Drobo 5N (review coming soon) we were checking out the software for it, and copy.com was one of them.

The short story: 15 GB of cloud based storage that can be accessed by different devices via different channels.

Finally, Roads for the Future: Solar Roadways

Here’s a cause we believe needs some more attention.  This idea could revolutionize the US dependency on power.  According to the product video, there is enough capacity in our interstate highway systems along to provide three times the power that we consume in the US.  That’s incredible and certainly worth the exploration.

Join us in supporting this cause!  Click through for their video introducing their product and idea.

PayPal Redirect Exploitation in Apple ID Phishing Attack

PayPal Redirect Exploitation in Apple ID Phishing Attack

Our continual vigilance is required to double-check all of our transactions with our favorite internet vendors.

There is a new exploit going around that attempts to steal your Apple ID credentials.  The email states, “If you did not order the above products and suspect your account has been hijacked kindly visit the link below.” The displayed link will look like www.order.itunes.com/verify/cancel but will not take you to a matching URL.

As always we encourage people to LOOK CAREFULLY at the directed URL in the top of their browser, as in this case, it’s clear that this is bogus as the domain name you land on is: paypal-communications.com.

Just close and go away!

More information about this can be found here: http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2014/05/21/paypal-redirect-exploited-in-apple-id-phishing-attack.html

Top 5 Domain Name Suggestions For Success

Top 5 Domain Name Suggestions For SuccessSelecting a domain name doesn’t have to be hard.  Funny things is, it’s not easy either.  Searching the internet, you’ll find as many suggestions as you will registrars (a company who provides domain name registration services.)  Each vying for your business with their own approach to finding domain names.  They’ll often have tools for “domain name suggestions."

The term “domain name suggestions” can be very misleading  In many cases, the suggestions come from changing the root of your domain name request to little or no avail.  It may even suggest a domain that infringes on a trademark.  In either case, the general term “domain name suggestion” will mean different things to different people.

Heartbleed Isn't Dead Yet?!?!

Heartbleed.svgEver being optimists we hoped that this issue would be remedied quickly, cleanly and quietly. Unfortunately, we still regularly see servers vulnerable to the situation. This IS bad news.

When patching our servers, the process was simple and relatively easy. Sure a new certificate should be issued, but the long and short of things is that this is not a hard problem to deal with.

PlayFit Education Launches!

Home Playfit Education

Congratulations to Dr. Curt Hinson and the PlayFit Education Team for launching their new website http://www.playfiteducation.com.  The site features information and products related to getting kids moving and playing in an active, safer environment.

“Improving the lives of children through play and fitness” is a major goal.  Dr. Hinson’s desire to educate and give back clearly shows in his care and dedication while making this website appropriate for all audiences.

While we still have much more to accomplish, as anyone who’s been through a website launch can attest, getting it up and running is a key first step.

Please check out his site and give him all of the support you can.
