Google Hurting the Little Guys

We've seen a fair amount of press regarding Google's recent change to it's search algorithyms. As far as we can tell, this change was made in an attempt to take content farms and remove their relevance. Without getting into how this works, we can already see significant issues.
One of our clients who has a massive newsletter and daily readers on his website, has seen the rankings for his website title drop, significantly when searching for his site on Google. His website is a blend of HAND CHOSEN articles and unique content. Additionally, his newsletter has become an authoritative source of information in his chosen industry.
The problem is that now with Google coldly marking his site as a content farm, people looking for his website by searching for his name or the name of his organization or website, will not find the website. Instead, Google prefers to show websites that have not been updated in YEARS with only a few pages which are mostly irrelevant to current times.
Looking to the Google Webmaster services was no help either. No where in there is anything related to dealing with this issue. So, instead, we must not find ways to restore the ratings and get back in good graces of the Google search engine... all for doing the right thing.
His site provides a valuable service and is highly rated for doing so. Google doesn't do news aggregation well... at least they're not preventing us from providing this service! .... yet....
